stephen methot (methot) > Test #3 400mm lens with three extension tubes and a minimum focusing distance of five feet. DOF is getting quite shallow so probably too much for small birds. I would say shooting with the 36mm when bird is within range of seven feet would be as good as it gets. But if shooting macro, this is a viable alternative to a macro lens, especially if coupled with the 1.4 extension lens.
